Daily portions of Manna. Daily portions of His Grace.
Daily portions of Manna.
There’s so much we can learn from the relationship between God and the Israelite’s. So much of God’s love and grace is embedded in the journey of the Israelite’s as they traveled from Egypt to the Promised Land. There’s one particular act of love that gives me so much peace every morning and reminds me that, no matter what state of mind or “wilderness” I wake up in, everything will be alright. It’s in the book of Exodus. The Israelite’s were complaining to Moses that they were hungry. (Exodus 16:3) In response, God showers them with manna (bread) and quail (meat) from heaven. But what’s so intriguing to me is the way God performs this act of love. God gives the Israelite’s just enough manna and quail to get them through each day. Nothing more. Nothing less. As a matter of fact, the Word of God says the Israelite’s were instructed not to carry over any extra food into the next day, or else the food would decay. (Exodus 16:19) The next day would come, and God would again provide just enough manna and quail for the Israelite’s.
Daily portions of His Grace.
Because our Heavenly is all-knowing and omnipotent, He already knows what is going to happen today, the challenges we will face, the highs and the lows, and what we’ll need to overcome every hurdle. So just like in the wilderness, God gives us daily portions of grace, favor, forgiveness, mercy, healing, protection, strength, perseverance, and love to carry us through. We don’t have to put some grace in our pockets to keep it for tomorrow in fear that He won’t be there. Author A.W. Tozer reminds us of ‘The Knowledge of the Holy’ that God has already lived our past, present, and future. So because our Father has already lived our future, He knows exactly what we need today, tomorrow, and forever. Perhaps that’s why He told the Israelite’s they didn’t have to take any food with them for the next day. God wants you to depend on Him daily. The Maker of the heavens and the earth already has the portions we need the next day and the day after not just to survive, but to truly live.
Pray With Me.
Dear God,
Thank you for waking me up this morning and blessing me with a new day. I don’t know what may come my way, but I trust that you have blessed me with everything I need to make it through this day. Thank you for your daily portion of grace.
